Markel International has announced the appointment of Sam Batstone as an Underwriter within its newly launched Construction & Engineering practice.<\/p>\n

\"MarkelLaunched in November 2025, Markel\u2019s Construction & Engineering practice<\/a> within its international division introduces Construction All Risks (CAR) and Erection All Risks (EAR) solutions for clients worldwide, aimed at supporting a broad range of project needs while strengthening Markel\u2019s position across construction and energy markets.<\/p>\n

In his new role, Batstone will help shape Markel\u2019s Construction & Engineering portfolio. He will focus on building a strong book of business, developing broker relationships, and driving collaboration across the company\u2019s global network to deliver profitable growth.<\/p>\n

Batstone brings deep technical underwriting expertise, joining Markel from AXIS, where he served as Underwriter \u2013 Construction \u2013 Global Markets.<\/p>\n

Prior to that, he spent 11 years at Canopius Group, most recently as Underwriter \u2013 Heavy Industry & Engineering, contributing directly to syndicate profitability through underwriting international CAR\/EAR risks in the Lloyd\u2019s market.<\/p>\n
