QBE, an international insurer and reinsurer, has announced the appointment of Sebastian Tjornelund as Asia Head, Underwriting, Marine, effective 1st December 2025.
In his new role, Tjornelund will shape and implement QBE Asia’s strategy for its marine underwriting portfolios and facultative reinsurance business in the region. He will be responsible for the growth and profitability of these businesses, provide guidance to regional underwriters, and underwrite highly complex coverage for clients.
Tjornelund will report to Ronak Shah, CEO of Wholesale Markets Asia, with a dotted line to Simon Lascelles, Head of Marine, International.
He brings 13 years of experience in the marine insurance sector. Since joining QBE in September 2023, Tjornelund has served as Head of P&I Underwriting, British Marine, Asia, overseeing the management and performance of the [British Marine] Asia P&I portfolio. He assumed the role of Interim Head of Marine, Asia, in July 2025.
Prior to that, he was Business Development Manager at NorthStandard and also served as Business Development Director, Eagle Ocean Marine at The American P&I Club.
